Set up a protected agent account

Create the account, decide what the agent may spend, then give it permission and funds.

Step 1 of 4

Create your protected account

This account holds the agent's budget. You remain its owner and control every protection setting.

Owner wallet

Controls policy and recovery

Agent wallet

Spends only within policy

Creating the account needs only the wallet you are about to connect. Handing it to an agent afterwards needs Node 20 or newer and an MCP client — Claude Code, Cursor and Codex all work. The step-by-step guide uses Claude Code, which needs a paid Claude plan; the others do not.

What you need before creating
  • An owner wallet on Celo with a little CELO for transaction fees. Roughly 0.25 CELO covers this whole setup. Use a wallet you will keep; ownership can be handed over later, but only by this one.
  • USDC on Celo for the protected budget and agent gas. The agent wallet needs no CELO at all — it pays gas in USDC.
  • A separate wallet for your agent — nothing to prepare. Step 3 can generate one in this browser, and shows you the private key you will need to connect an agent runtime. Bring your own instead if you prefer, so long as you can export its key. Never your owner wallet.
